Hello Avatar! Welcome back for another week of biotech analysis. Today is Sunday, which means this is our Building Biotech newsletter that is focused on discussing biopharma strategy topics. Today we are going to cover clinical trial development trends. We will begin by looking at where clinical work is happening - general trial volume trends by geography and therapeutic area. Then we will drill down into a handful of the hot themes in biotech including, ADCs, Cell and Gene Therapy, CAR-T, Obesity, and Depression. For some, clinical trial trends may seem like a dry topic. However, patients are not always easy to find for these studies. Those of you active in planning clinical development will appreciate this information and for those of you planning new ventures/investments you should consider how competitive it can be to recruit patients. Missing your recruitment timelines is the fastest way to ruin a use of proceeds plan and in a worst case scenario leave a company without a clear value driver to raise additional capital.
We are now publishing 4-5x per week according to the following cadence:
Mondays: BioBucks: Stock Analysis & Biotech Catalysts
Wednesdays: CRISPR Corner: Monthly gene editing news (monthly)
Thursdays: Insiders Track: Public & Private Biotech Markets
Fridays: Sweat Equity: Your Weekly Biotech Fix
Sundays: Building Biotech: Strategic Topics
Monday’s BioBucks column will feature Sage Therapeutics with upcoming top line data from their Phase 2 PRECEDENT placebo-controlled study of dalzanemdor in people with mild cognitive impairment due to Parkinson’s Disease. Data from the study is expected in early 2024. Options pricing suggest 20% volatility!

Lots to cover this week, let's get started!
CLINICAL TRIAL ACTIVITY
Welcome, today we are going to dive into an analysis on Clinical Development Operations trends. Human clinical trials are essential to getting novel therapeutics approved. We can learn a lot from monitoring trends in activity. How much clinical development is happening can be a proxy not only for R&D investment but also feasibility of patient recruitment. We will cover how and where this is happening.
We will then dig a bit deeper and analyze trends in clinical development by therapeutic area. Almost always there is a “hot biopharma theme” which is driving high levels of clinical development. This of course can create challenges with patient recruitment. We will have some numbers on this and you should not be surprised to see where the most activity is,
Finally we will dig into some of the hot biotech trends and explore key trends around clinical development - this part of the analysis will include ADCs, Cell and Gene Therapy, CAR-T,Obesity, and Depression.
Today’s analysis will be broken down into the following categories:
Clinical trial volume
Study start trends
China clinical trials
Therapeutic area trends
ADCs
Cell and Gene Therapy
CAR-T
Obesity
Depression
